Marc’s Valu-Mart is teaming up with East Wellington Community Services (EWCS) Food Bank to help stock the shelves in time for Thanksgiving.
Pre-packed bags will be available for purchase through Valu-Mart that are full of items in greatest need at the food bank or customers can drop off items to the store that will be donated to the food bank.
“Locally, through East Wellington Community Services, our food bank program sees more than 1,100 client visits per year from individuals needing assistance. From January to August of this year, our food banks in Rockwood and Erin have distributed a combined total of more than 31,000 pounds of food – that is a lot of support being provided through the program. Food drive events, like this one, are so important so that we can continue to provide the support for so many in our community who rely on this program to help meet their food requirements,” said Erika Westcott, manager of community and volunteer services.
Items that are in most need for the food bank include toilet paper, hearty soups and stews, tomato and vegetable soups, healthy choice hot and cold cereals, jam, peanut butter, sugar, children’s school snacks, coffee, tea, pasta and sauce, canned salmon, turkey, ham and chicken and baked beans.
This food drive event will run from Sept. 25 to Oct. 18. Any individual, business or organization who would like to host a food drive, is urged to contact Erika at 519-833-9696 or Rick at 519-856-2113.
